Carbon Black Handling and Feeding

A Clean Environment, a Safe Solution for Conveying Carbon Black

VOLDE designs and implements fully enclosed, dense-phase pneumatic conveying systems on a turnkey basis for carbon black powder used in tire and rubber production facilities — a material with an extremely fine particle size, a high tendency to generate dust, and an environmental pollution risk. The systems are developed to minimize dust release, prevent material loss, and improve the working environment

| The Technical Challenges of Conveying Carbon Black

Carbon black;

 • Has a very low bulk density
 • Has an extremely small particle size
 • Has low flowability and a tendency to bridge
 • Seriously affects equipment, flooring, and air quality when it spreads into the environment

For this reason, open conveyors, high-speed dilute-phase pneumatic systems, or manual transfer methods create high dust generation, filter clogging, and facility contamination in carbon black applications.

In dense-phase conveying systems, carbon black is conveyed through the pipeline with low air velocity and a high solids-to-air ratio, resulting in minimum wear. Thanks to the AIRPLUS Support Air Kit technology applied by VOLDE, material advances along the pipeline with controlled mass flow. It carries out all movement of carbon black within the facility inside a closed process chain.

As a result:

 • Dust generation is reduced to a minimum
 • Pipeline wear is reduced and filter clogging does not occur
 • Material particle segregation does not occur

    | Banbury Mixer Integration

    The dense-phase conveying line is engineered to operate in full synchronization with the Banbury mixer feeding system.

     • Load-cell-based weighing bins
     • Recipe-controlled dosing
     • Batch management via PLC
     • Automatic feeding sequences

    Thanks to these, carbon black is transferred into the mixer in the correct quantity and in a repeatable manner.

    | Environment, Occupational Safety, and ATEX Compliance

    VOLDE carbon black conveying systems are engineered with the following criteria in mind;

     • Closed-loop design
     • Controlled air venting
     • Static electricity grounding
     • ATEX Zone 21/22-compliant equipment

    The goal is not just process performance, but the continuity of operator health and facility safety.
