Precise and Stable Dosing for Continuous Production

VOLDE Continuous Dosing Systems are engineered for production processes requiring uninterrupted material feeding, consistent formulation and stable product quality. Multiple raw materials are continuously and independently dosed according to predefined recipe ratios using gravimetric feeding technology and combined before entering the continuous mixer or downstream process. Each ingredient is controlled according to its required mass flow rate, while all feeders operate in synchronization with the overall production capacity. As the production rate changes, individual feed rates can be automatically adjusted while maintaining the defined formulation ratios. This coordinated approach provides accurate, repeatable and continuous material feeding without dividing production into individual batches.

| System Configuration & Operating Principle

Each raw material is stored in a dedicated hopper or silo and independently metered by its own dosing feeder. The individual material streams are then combined through a common collecting conveyor, screw conveyor or directly at the inlet of the continuous mixer. The automation system continuously coordinates all feeders according to the selected recipe and required production throughput

 • Dedicated storage and dosing system for each ingredient
 • Independent mass flow control for every material
 • Synchronized operation of multiple feeders
 • Continuous collection and transfer of dosed materials
 • Automatic maintenance of recipe ratios
 • Integration with continuous mixers and downstream process equipment

Unlike batch dosing, where ingredients are weighed in defined quantities before each production cycle, continuous dosing maintains the required formulation by controlling mass flow rates over time.

    | Gravimetric Loss-in-Weight Dosing

At the core of the system are Loss-in-Weight (LIW) Feeders, providing continuous gravimetric control of each ingredient. The complete feeder assembly—including the material hopper and dosing mechanism—is continuously weighed by load cells. During operation, the control system measures the reduction in system weight over time and continuously calculates the actual mass flow rate. Feeder speed is automatically adjusted to maintain the required setpoint, compensating for variations in material behavior and operating conditions. This closed-loop weighing principle provides.

    This closed-loop weighing principle provides:

     • Continuous measurement of actual mass flow rate
     • Automatic correction of feeder output
     • Stable and repeatable dosing performance
     • Accurate maintenance of recipe ratios
     • Reliable control across a wide range of feed rates
     • Reduced sensitivity to variations in bulk density

      | Synchronized Multi-Ingredient Dosing

In multi-component continuous processes, dosing accuracy alone is not sufficient. All material streams must remain synchronized to maintain the required formulation throughout production. A master production rate defines the overall system capacity, while the control system calculates the corresponding feed rate setpoint for each ingredient according to its percentage in the selected recipe. For example, when the total production rate is increased or decreased, all feeders automatically adjust their outputs proportionally while maintaining the defined formulation.

       • Master production rate control
       • Automatic calculation of individual feeder setpoints
       • Continuous ratio control between ingredients
       • Synchronized ramp-up and ramp-down
       • Recipe-based production rate adjustment
       • Stable formulation during continuous operation

        | Automatic Refill Without Interrupting Production

Loss-in-weight feeders require periodic replenishment while the production process continues. The refill sequence is therefore engineered to minimize its effect on dosing performance and maintain continuous material supply. When the hopper reaches the defined refill level, the control system automatically initiates material replenishment from the upstream storage or conveying system. During refill, feeder operation is managed according to the selected control strategy before returning to normal gravimetric operation. Upstream supply can be provided through:

         • Vacuum conveying systems
         • Pneumatic conveying
         • Screw conveyors
         • Day bins or storage hoppers
         • Big bag or bag unloading systems

This enables continuous production while minimizing operator intervention and maintaining reliable material availability.
