Activated Carbon (PAC) Dosage

Activated Carbon Feeding for Wastewater Treatment Plants

Powder activated carbon is a high-surface-area adsorbent widely used, particularly in wastewater treatment plants, for removing color, odor, COD, and micro-pollutants. However, due to its extremely fine, lightweight, and heavily dust-prone structure, it is a powder that puts a strain on storage and dosing system equipment.

VOLDE Powder Activated Carbon Feeding Systems offer complete solutions, including big-bag discharge, an activated carbon silo, precision dosing, and process tank feeding. The goal is precise dosing, safe operation, and minimum dust emission.

| Big Bag Discharge, Activated Carbon Silo, and Dosing

In wastewater treatment plants, powder activated carbon generally arrives on site in 500–1,000 kg big bags. For this reason, the most common solution is the integration of a big-bag discharge station.

In VOLDE systems:

 • A dust-tight big-bag discharge unit
 • An integrated local filter and dust collection system
 • A flow-assist vibration or massage system
 • An intermediate bin or direct dosing feeder connection
 • Volumetric or gravimetric activated carbon feeding is available

For high-consumption applications, an activated carbon silo and feeding system is preferred instead. The silo design has a geometry that prevents bridging, and dust emission is controlled via the top filter. Dosing capacity (kg/h) can be automatically adjusted according to the treatment flow rate.

    | ATEX-Compliant Activated Carbon Feeding Systems

Due to its fine particle structure and organic character, powder activated carbon can create a potentially explosive dust atmosphere. For this reason, an ATEX-compliant activated carbon feeding system is required in many applications.

In its activated carbon systems, VOLDE offers safe, regulation-compliant solutions through:

     • Selection of ATEX-certified equipment
     • Grounding and static electricity control
     • Explosion vent solutions
     • Appropriate motor and instrumentation classification
     • A dust-tight, enclosed system design

Thanks to this approach, both occupational safety is ensured and the facility's operational continuity is preserved.
