VOLDE develops integrated material handling, dosing and process feeding systems for the production of PVC cable compounds used in insulation, sheathing and filled cable applications. PVC resin, mineral fillers, plasticizers, stabilizers, lubricants, pigments and functional additives are prepared according to the formulation, transferred to the mixing process and supplied to the compounding line through a coordinated material handling system. Each plant is engineered around the cable compound grade, formulation, production capacity and compounding technology. From bulk raw material storage and precise ingredient dosing to blend preparation, compounder feeding, pellet transfer and finished-product packaging, VOLDE connects the complete material flow surrounding the compounding process into one integrated production infrastructure

| Building the Right Cable Compound Formulation

PVC cable compounds combine powders, liquids and low-dose additives with very different handling characteristics. PVC resin and mineral fillers form the main solid components, while plasticizers, stabilizers, lubricants, pigments and specialty additives determine processing behavior and the final performance characteristics required from the cable compound.

Raw materials can be received from bulk tankers, big bags, bags or liquid storage tanks. High-consumption materials are generally stored centrally, while minor and micro ingredients are handled through dedicated stations closer to the mixing process.

For fine or poor-flowing materials, silo discharge geometry, feeder type, filtration and conveying method are selected specifically for the product. This is particularly important for micronized calcite, titanium dioxide and certain additive packages.

Typical plant infrastructure may include PVC and calcite silos, big bag and bag discharge stations, liquid storage tanks, pneumatic conveying, intermediate bins and centralized dust collection.

    | Precision Where the Recipe Matters

    Cable compound properties depend strongly on maintaining the specified relationship between PVC resin, filler, plasticizer and functional additives. The dosing system therefore separates major, minor, micro and liquid ingredients according to their consumption range, material behavior and required weighing accuracy.

    PVC resin and mineral fillers can be prepared through gravimetric batch weighing systems, while stabilizers, lubricants, pigments and processing aids are dosed through dedicated volumetric or gravimetric feeders. Very small recipe components can be handled through automatic micro-dosing or operator-guided weighing systems.

    Plasticizers and liquid additives are stored separately and weighed or metered before being introduced into the mixing process according to the formulation sequence.

      | Preparing the Blend for Compounding

      Before entering the compounding line, weighed ingredients are brought together through the required mixing sequence to create a uniform feed material for the extrusion process. In plasticized PVC cable formulations, the sequence and timing of filler, plasticizer and additive addition are especially important to the behavior of the prepared blend.

      The material can be transferred directly from the mixing system to the compounder or routed through intermediate bins where buffer capacity is required. Transfer and feeding equipment are sized around the actual consumption of the compounding line so that material preparation and extrusion operate as one coordinated process.

      Depending on the line configuration, batch feeding, volumetric feeding or gravimetric Loss-in-Weight feeding can be applied at the compounder inlet. Mixer, buffer bin, feeder and compounder signals can be linked through the automation system to maintain the required material availability throughout production.

        | Finished Compound Handling & Packaging

        After compounding and pelletizing, the finished PVC cable compound enters a separate material handling stage. Granules must be transferred to intermediate storage and packaging while maintaining clear separation between different grades, colors and customer-specific formulations.

        VOLDE can integrate pneumatic or mechanical pellet conveying with product silos, automatic routing and packaging equipment. Finished compound can then be directed to 10–50 kg open-mouth bag filling machines, big bag filling systems or other downstream packaging formats according to production and logistics requirements.

        Where required, the downstream system can also incorporate screening, magnetic separation, intermediate storage and conveyor or palletizing equipment.

          Cable compound producers often manufacture multiple insulation and sheathing grades, colors and customer-specific formulations. The automation system therefore needs to maintain a clear connection between raw materials, formulation, actual dosing values and the finished compound.

          VOLDE PLC/SCADA systems can coordinate material selection, weighing, additive and liquid dosing, mixer feeding, compounder supply and finished-product routing. Recipe revisions, actual consumption, raw material lots, batch records, alarms and operator actions can all be stored as part of the production history.
