Mineral Powder Handling for Transformer Manufacturing

Mineral Powder Preparation for Casting Processes

Transformer and insulator manufacturing may require mineral fillers such as dolomite and similar fine powders to be prepared under controlled conditions before they enter resin- or slurry-based production stages. These materials typically arrive in big bags and pass through several preparation steps before use. Screening, accurate weighing, thermal conditioning, homogenization and final transfer all influence the consistency of the powder reaching the downstream process. VOLDE develops integrated powder-handling systems that combine raw-material intake, preparation, conveying and process feeding within one coordinated architecture. Each installation is configured according to the mineral powder characteristics, batch requirement, thermal preparation needs and number of downstream process points.

| Screening, Weighing & Thermal Conditioning

Mineral powders are first discharged from big bags and passed through a screening stage before entering the preparation section. This helps remove oversize particles and unwanted foreign material before the powder becomes part of the production recipe.

The screened material is then weighed according to the required batch and transferred into a specially designed heated mixer. Thermal conditioning and mixing take place in the same equipment, allowing the powder to reach the required temperature and a more uniform physical condition before it is sent to the next process stage.

Depending on the application, this preparation section can integrate:

 • enclosed big bag unloading and screening
 • recipe-based weighing
 • heated mixing and homogenization

The result is a defined powder-preparation sequence rather than a series of disconnected handling steps.

    | Vacuum Conveying & Slurry Tank Feeding

After thermal preparation, the conditioned powder is transferred by vacuum conveying to cyclone receivers positioned close to the slurry or casting process.

The cyclone acts as the interface between pneumatic transfer and the downstream vessel. From this point, the prepared mineral powder can be discharged in the required quantity into slurry tanks, resin-preparation vessels or other process equipment.

Where several tanks are supplied, the conveying and discharge sequence can be arranged so that the same preparation line serves multiple destinations. This allows the powder-preparation area to remain physically separated from the liquid-process section while maintaining an enclosed and organized material flow.

      | Process Automation & Traceability

The complete preparation and feeding sequence can be integrated with PLC/SCADA automation, linking weighing, mixer operation, vacuum conveying and tank feeding within the same control structure.

Batch quantities, actual weighing values, mixer conditions, transfer status and destination selection can be monitored and recorded throughout production. Where required, recipe management and production-history functions can also be incorporated into the system.
