Biomass Burner Solid Fuel Feeding

Uninterrupted, Controlled Combustion in the Burner

Biomass fuels consist of organic solid fuels such as sawdust, wood chips, pellets, olive pits, olive pomace, and similar materials. Due to their low density, variable moisture content, and irregular grain structure, the controlled dosing of these materials and their feeding into the burner/boiler is critically important for energy production efficiency.

VOLDE Biomass Fuel Dosing and Feeding Systems enable fuel to be drawn from the silo and transferred to the burner or boiler safely, in a balanced manner, and at an adjustable flow rate. The goal is stable combustion, homogeneous heat generation, and minimum operator intervention.

| Gravimetric Dosing Specific to Biomass Fuel

Characteristic properties of biomass fuels:
Low bulk density of 200–400 kg/m³
Variable moisture content of 10–50%
Fibrous structure prone to bridging
Irregular, heterogeneous particle size
Flow problems and the risk of tunneling inside the bin

For this reason, standard screws or simple bin outlets are often insufficient. In VOLDE systems, fuel flow rate is precisely adjusted using:

Bin geometries that prevent bridging
Moving-floor or mechanical discharge solutions
Heavy-duty screw feeders
Dual-screw controlled dosing systems
Gravimetric (weighed) fuel feeding options

Particularly in boilers with automatic combustion control, the air/fuel ratio is kept more stable through the gravimetric biomass dosing system.

    | Burner and Boiler Integration

    The biomass fuel feeding system generally begins at the main storage silo or bin and extends to the burner or boiler via an intermediate dosing unit. Within the scope of VOLDE engineering:
     •  Hourly fuel consumption capacity (kg/h – t/h) is calculated
       Screw diameter and line incline are determined according to the fuel type
       Safety flap valves and isolation equipment are integrated against the risk of backfire
       A safety scenario is established with fire and temperature sensors
       Fuel flow rate is modulated by the automation system according to burner load
